YouTuber Destroys $400,000 Mercedes G63 in Name of Views

An expensive experiment in the name of social media science, or just wasteful stupidity?

Expensive destruction in the name of video views isn’t for everyone, but these clips show an impressive skill behind the celebrity appeal of the brutal Mercedes-Benz G63.

Locally, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G63 starts at $365,900 before options and on-road costs — but even then, due to high demand, you can’t currently order one, and the last time you could, the wait list stretched over a year.

The all-wheel drive has a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo petrol engine with a massive 430 kW and 850 Nm. It seems utterly wasted considering the majority of them spend their lives roaming high streets and upscale places without ever having to use one, let alone three, differential locks.

Perhaps it’s this “caged beast” mindset that has shaped Americans YouTuber WhistlinDiesel on the way to “test” a G63 to its limits and arguably beyond.

In a series of videos, the presenter happily steers his new G63 through some challenging off-road obstacles and sets the tone early on, where the Mercedes is being backed off a semi-trailer quickly and without ramps.

The ‘G takes this in stride and hops in anticipation of what’s to come next.

Racing the car through some sand dunes with impressive tracking footage shows just how hard the Mercedes suspension has to work, but also how relentlessly capable the G-Wag is off the high street.

The video thumbnail alone, which shows the G63 a good two meters in the air jumping from dune to dune, says enough about the rest of the clip.

It’s both brutal and wasteful. The big Mercedes is literally smashed to the breaking point in the name of the video views.

Follow-up clips go even further, sticking the poor Mercedes in a swamp hole and eventually having it dropped through a house by a crane (really), but even then, the iconic Mercedes manages to be retired (and repaired) with dignity.
