Xbox is considering adding a feature that will make your Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X consoles worse, but there’s a good reason for that. The speculation is based on a new questionnaire that Microsoft has distributed through the Xbox Insider program. There is a wide variety of topics covered in the survey, but the most interesting is the mention of a feature, or more specifically, an option, for players to opt-in to lower frame rates, resolution, and more to save power. to spare .
Why would anyone want to do this? Well, there can be a few motivations. The primary motivation is to save money, especially now that energy prices are rising. It can also be helpful for those who want to limit their energy consumption to be environmentally conscious. And, of course, there are situations where things like resolution aren’t so important. For example, resolution isn’t all that important to someone on a smaller monitor or TV, so it may be appealing to sacrifice a little inconsistent resolution to reduce energy.
For now, there is no guarantee that anything will come of this. However, as businesses become increasingly aware of energy consumption, it is likely that this will eventually happen. Furthermore, this wouldn’t be the first time Xbox’s plans have been revealed early via an Xbox Insider poll.
This survey made the rounds this week, but so far Microsoft has not commented on it and the discussion it has sparked. If this changes, we’ll update the story accordingly. That said, if Xbox were to comment, it probably would have already done so. In other words, don’t expect this to change.
