Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on PC and console are upset by a sudden new change in the subscription service. The change is quite minor and there’s no indication it’s a permanent change, but it has drawn the ire of some subscribers who have had little to complain about since the subscription service launched. What’s the problem? Well, Xbox has stopped communicating about new games. A few games have been added so far this year, but they’ve been stealth drops. Typically, Xbox makes an Xbox Game Pass announcement every two weeks, revealing new games coming to the subscription service each month. This has stopped for a few weeks. Many assume this is because of the holiday season, but while this is a reasonable conclusion, it is not a definitive, official conclusion.
The complaints and criticisms have become so frequent that the mods of the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page have started deleting posts about the situation. According to most of these reports, the problem is not the lack of new games, but the lack of communication.
“I personally don’t care about the game drops because I’ve got enough shit to play, but if a service has worked exactly the same way from the start and that starts to change out of the blue, with no communication, then think people have a right to be wary,” one Redditor says of the situation. “These are now two missed drops, for the first time since the beginning. There are still just as many games leaving the service, but not nearly as many are being added right now. So I think it’s fair that people are annoyed when you pay for it.”
“I agree with most here, it’s not necessarily the fact that no games came out in the last two weeks of December,” another Redditor added. “It’s more annoying that there’s been no communication. It’s a staple of Game Pass that two announcements are made every month, and if they suddenly stop doing that, people are naturally going to ask questions.”
Again, it’s quite possible that this change is purely the product of the holiday season. However, if this is the case, it has not been communicated. Xbox hasn’t said anything else about it, teasingly tweet. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly. In the meantime, feel free to leave a comment to let us know what you think.
