Those still using Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console will soon lose access to purchase a total of 46 games through the platform’s digital store. While it may not seem that old, the Xbox 360 was originally launched way back in 2005. Since that time, Microsoft has released a number of new Xbox consoles, most notably with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. While some fans may still use their Xbox 360 periodically, Microsoft is now starting to remove some notable titles from the old hardware.
Later this week on February 7, Microsoft recently took place announced that it will take a total of 46 games off the Xbox 360 storefront. The reason for these removals was not given by Microsoft, but some of the most notable franchises that will be affected include Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, and Dark Souls. If you already own these titles digitally on Xbox 360, they can still be downloaded forever, but now purchases of these games are no longer allowed.
It’s worth emphasizing that if you happen to own an Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S console, those games in question that are being removed from the Xbox 360 can still be purchased on all those mentioned above platforms. So as long as you happen to own an Xbox console that was released in the last decade, this deletion situation probably won’t be a problem for you. Still, it’s interesting to see Microsoft now starting to phase out the Xbox 360, something that will only become more apparent over time.
