It was revealed earlier today that Vince McMahon has made plans to return to WWE as chairman so he can take the lead in the process of selling a company. After the initial report fell, McMahon confirmed the news, announcing that if he was not placed in that role, he would use his voting rights to block any media rights deals and any attempt to sell the company. A new report from Conflicting selection reveals the internal reaction to the news, and it was largely blindsided and shocked across the board, as apparently no one Fightful spoke to had been tipped off beforehand.

The report says they spoke to dozens within WWE and they were all impressed by the announcement. No one from the department they spoke to was briefed or tipped off, or any information for that matter immediately following the announcement.

“Nothing, but since some people from his regime were held for so long, they must have known it was going to happen. We’ll see if they talk to us tomorrow,” a talent told Fightful, referring to 6’s upcoming Smackdown taping January. .

Among talent, the idea that McMahon could return to controlling creatives was a concern, and two sources within the creative team had never heard of any changes to their roles and were awarded Smackdown shortly before the original Wall Street Journal report notes sent.

The reaction of many responding to the issue was bad news or “news above their pay grade” that they wouldn’t care about until they needed to. Another talent said, “Discovering online is scary, and it’s Vince, so I don’t believe a word he says. I hope the current management and everything doesn’t change, but only time will tell.” Another talent said they think there will be a stir when Vince gets creative again.

“I can’t count how many interviews I’ve read or talked to people outside the company who said, ‘Vince liked me, but I got fired.’ He didn’t like you, he didn’t like any of them, he fired or they wouldn’t have been fired during a pandemic,” a concerned higher up said.

“I would be amazed if he got creative again,” said a recently signed talent.
