Hogwarts legacy sadly doesn’t let players participate in Quidditch, but there’s a reason for that! Hogwarts legacy is a brand new RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, except it’s completely disconnected from that era. This game is set in the late 19th century, long before Potter and Voldemort went head-to-head and destroyed the titular school. This new original story allows fans to create their own witch or wizard and shape their own story, while also living out the fantasy of a student at Hogwarts. It’s just about everything you can hope for, but there’s one serious exception that has rattled the cages of Potter fans.
Months ago it was confirmed that there would be no Quidditch Hogwarts legacy. For those who somehow don’t know, Quidditch is a popular game in the Harry Potter universe in which kids fly around violently on broomsticks, trying to hurl balls into the enemy team’s goals. It’s a lot of fun to watch the movie and fans hoped to play it in the game. A leak suggested it would come out of the game at some point, but was dropped somewhere along the way, presumably so the team could focus on the main gameplay experience. In the actual context of the game, Principal Phineas Nigellus Black explains to the students that an “unfortunate injury” on the field during last spring’s finals led the staff to cancel this year’s Quidditch season.
Considering we see a kid literally being struck by lightning during a Quidditch match in one of the films, it’s hard to imagine what this “unfortunate injury” could be if it was considered hardcore enough to cancel the season. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see that Avalanche Studios has taken the time to create a reason in the game rather than ignore it completely. You can still fly broomsticks in the game and visit the Quidditch pitch, so you can get a taste of that experience.
Hogwarts legacy releases for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC on February 10. Are you disappointed that there is no Quidditch in the game? Let me know in the comments or give me a call Twitter @Cade_Onder.
