What is Shane McMahon’s status with WWE?

Shane McMahon is still with the WWE, at least on a technical level. Vince McMahon’s son was at one point WWE’s Vice President of Global Media, but upon his return to the company in 2016, he was primarily used as an on-screen and in-ring figure. However, backstage drama regarding his booking of the 2022 Men’s Royal Rumble match resulted in him being sent home. The latest official SEC filing from the WWE states that Shane is still employed by the company as an independent contractor and received $828,000 in 2022.

But while Shane remains absent from WWE, his sister is right out of the company. Stephanie McMahon announced Tuesday that she would be officially stepping down from her role as co-CEO and leaving the company altogether. Steph initially attempted to take a leave of absence in 2022, but was rushed back to the company and forced to act as chairman and CEO when reports of Vince McMahon’s NDA scandal first broke through the Wall Street Journal. Vince was reinstated to WWE’s board of directors after initially retiring in July last year.

“Dear WWE Universe, About 8 months ago I took a leave of absence and within a few weeks I unexpectedly had the opportunity of a lifetime. I was privileged to return as Co-CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of WWE. I cannot put into words how proud I am to have led what I consider to be the largest company in the world, along with a remarkable leadership team and one of the strongest executives I have known in my co-CEO, Nick Khan, wrote Stephanie. in a statement to fans. “Our founder, Vince McMahon, has returned as Executive Chair and is leading an exciting process regarding strategic alternatives. And with Nick’s leadership and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque as Chief Content Officer, I am confident WWE is in the perfect place to continue to provide unparalleled creative content and ensure maximum shareholder value. WWE is in such a strong position that I have decided to return to my furlough and take it one step further with my official resignation. Looking forward to it out to cheering on WWE from the other side of the company, where I started when I was a little kid, as a pure fan I will always remain committed to WWE I really love our company, our employees, our Superstars and our fans. And I’m grateful to all our partners.”
