Weird Al reveals that Warner Bros. closed a Harry Potter parody issue

With the recent release of WEIRD: The story of Al Yankovic, Weird Al Yankovic’s decades-long work is back in the spotlight. The musician has become a ubiquitous part of our popular culture thanks to his satirical songs, which feature not only polka covers of popular songs, but also reimagined parodies of existing songs or franchises. As Yankovic revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporterdid he reveal a franchise he couldn’t actually parody – Harry Potter. According to Yankovic, Warner Bros., the studio behind the film adaptations, either completely abandoned the idea or never acted on it.

“Whenever it was, about a decade or two ago, I’d approach the movie company to get a general blessing like, ‘Hey, I’d like a Harry Potter parody.’ And I think they said no, or they never responded or whatever,” Yankovic revealed. .”

“When I’m doing a franchise, it’s usually better to just do it and ask for forgiveness rather than permission,” Yankovic added.

In a weird full-circle moment, Yankovic was finally portrayed in WEIRD by Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe — and that’s what has led the musician to consider the film the much-anticipated parody himself.

“We like to think this is the last movie of the Harry Potter franchise,” Yankovic joked.

In WEIRD: The story of Al Yankovic, Daniel Radcliffe is “Weird” Al Yankovic in the not overly true story of the greatest musician of our time. An instant success and sex symbol, Al lives an outrageous lifestyle and pursues an infamous romance that nearly destroys him. Featuring Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson and an A-list of thousands whose agents won’t let us reveal.

“I feel like my favorite Al song changes every few weeks,” Radcliffe explained in an exclusive interview with ComicBook. com. “I used to like the Polkas, but after spending very little time playing an accordion, it’s so mind blowing to me to listen to what he does on those tracks. Definitely a greater appreciation for them.”
