Warning: This story contains spoilers for The Walking Dead series finale. Maggie and Negan take on Manhattan in the first teaser trailer The Walking Dead: Dead City. Sunday series finale of The living Deadtitled “Rest in Peace,” ended the vendetta between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) who became allies and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who eventually apologized for murdering her husband Glenn (Steven Yeun). But not everything was forgiven. Maggie freed herself from her pain and her hatred and told Negan that they would never be friends. “When I look at you, all I see is that bat coming down on his head,” Maggie said. “So I can’t forgive you.”
As they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Watch The Walking Dead: Dead City teaser trailer below.
Announced in March as island of the dead, the Walking dead spinoff follows Maggie and Negan in “a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland,” according to the official synopsis. “The crumbling city is filled with the dead and residents who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty and terror.”
“I would describe Dead city like a new kind of danger,” Cohan teased in a behind-the-scenes look at the New York City-based Maggie and Negan spin-off. After spending seasons in rural Georgia, Virginia and Ohio, Morgan said, “We I get out of the woods and go to New York City, which was a lot of fun.”
Millions of undead multitudes are taking a bite out of the Big Apple and have conquered the city, forcing the survivors to zip-line through rooftops when not battling biters in an underground zombie fight club. “This is a very different show,” Morgan said. Cohan of the Concrete Jungle added, “This is just a whole new world.”
The TWD: Dead City cast includes Gaius Charles (Gray’s Anatomy) as Perlie Armstrong, Karina Ortiz (Orange is the new black) as Amaia, Mahina Napoleon (NCIS: Hawaii) as Ginny, Jonathan Higginbotham (The blacklist) as Tommaso, Trey Santiago-Hudson (New Amsterdam) as Jano and Zeljko Ivanek (Madam Secretary) as “The Croat.”
The six-episode first season of TWD: Dead City premieres April 2023 on AMC and AMC+.
