Undisputed Tag Team Titles Match, World Cup Debut & More

WWE got the hype train for tonight’s episode of SmackDown early, as fans knew The New Day would be a challenge for anyone who left Crown Jewel as Undisputed Tag Team Champions. That ended up being The Usos, beating the Brawling Brutes to keep their titles, and now they will face Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston later tonight. WWE also announced that tonight will be the debut of the SmackDown World Cup, as well as a contest to decide who will challenge Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship next. Add in a possible Bray Wyatt appearance and a few other surprises and you’ve got a big episode of SmackDown!

Last week, WWE revealed that they would be introducing the first-ever SmackDown World Cup to this week’s show, and at that point, all we knew was that the tournament would feature 8 entrants. The full line-up hasn’t been announced yet, but tonight’s tournament kicks off with a showdown between Shinsuke Nakamura and Legado del Fantasmas’ Santos Escobar.

Shinsuke joined Hit Row last week to help them take on Legado del Fantasma in a tag match, and now Nakamura will go head-to-head against Escobar to advance in the tournament. We also still don’t know what the trophy will look like or if anything else is included as a reward for the winner, but hopefully we’ll get more clarity on that tonight.

The other big game of the evening is a Six-Pack Challenge match that will decide who will challenge Rousey for her championship next. The lineup includes Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Shotzi, Sonya Deville, Lacey Evans and Xia Li, and outside of Xia, all of Rousey’s other competitors have played in singles for the past year. Morgan had a fight with Rousey before, so maybe this will go back and forth one way or the other.

Woods went to the main event and let The Usos know that this is personal to them and that The New Day intends to win back the Tag Team Championships. These two teams have always been great in the ring when they clash, and tonight will probably be no different. It’s hard to watch The Bloodline lose at the moment, but you never know what could happen.
