WWE held its Quarter 4 Earnings Call today, and on the call, Head of WWE Creative Paul Triple H Levesque spoke about the impressive results of the Royal Rumble and teased some of the projects and deals coming later in the year. Before turning the call over to President and CFO Frank A. Riddick, he took a moment to talk about Vince McMahon’s return to the company. Triple H said it’s great to have McMahon back, and even having him on the board also brings his incredible insight.
Levesque said, “I also want to add that it’s been great to have Vince around…Having him back and being involved, even at the executive level, comes with his incredible insight.” At this point, McMahon is only involved in board-level duties and would be focused on exploring WWE’s strategic options.
Many aren’t quite sure if it will stay that way, but Levesque seems happy to have him back and so far he’s maintained control of WWE Creative. In a recent interview with Variety, Triple H revealed that he didn’t know what Vince was up to during his time away from WWE. “If I know,” Levesque said. “I didn’t know what he was up to every day when he was here! I’ll be honest, I don’t know what he does. I think he keeps himself busy.”
Triple H has also continued McMahon’s penchant for long-term thinking about storylines, talent, and other facets of WWE. “[Vince was] always think long term. Whether it’s run that way or not, I don’t know,” Levesque said. “But for me it’s how I think because it’s how I learned it from him. I always try to think about the long-term storyline. I was at SummerSlam and one of the first things I talked to the team about was ‘Okay, where do we want to go for WrestleMania?'”
As for booking, Triple H described it as a GPS system. “It’s like a GPS. As long as you enter the destination, the GPS will continue to redirect you if needed. If an accident happens, it will send you this way. If you miss a turn, it will put you on a other way, but you will get to your destination,” Levesque continued. “And as long as we are aware of where we want to go, we can get there. We will adapt as we go. The destination can change. We can decide halfway through that we want to go in a different direction. But at least you’re constantly aware of your target. I think you’re just floating in the ocean without it.’
