The Witcher Showrunner promises that season 3 will be closer to the books

Since the first season of The witcher Released over three years ago, one of the biggest complaints from existing fans is that the Netflix adaptation doesn’t follow the source material closely enough. The first two seasons took great liberties with Andrzej Sapkowski’s work, which caused a lot of frustration among longtime fans. Thankfully, it looks like that could change in the show’s third season. In an interview with Weekly entertainmentshowrunner Lauren Hissrich told how season 3 will adapt quite a bit to the novel Time of contempt.

“What’s so interesting is that Season 3 is the closest thing to what we’ve done as a one-on-one adaptation of the books to me,” Hissrich told EW. “Of course we can’t do every page, but Time of contempt gave us so many big action events, plot points, defining character moments, huge revelations of a great evil. There’s so much to do that we were able to stick very, very closely to the books.”

The show’s deviations often seemed to be a source of frustration for series star Henry Cavill. Cavill was a huge fan of the books before joining the series, often fighting to include more elements of them in the show. In Season 2, the actor even snuck in dialogue from the books, despite the fact that it wasn’t in the script. During a Polish interview with Marcin Zweirzchowski, Cavill said he “didn’t feel like spending a lot of time discussing whether I could add this bit somewhere. So I just did it, spoke the words on camera and was ready to confront. effects.”

Season 3 of The witcher will be Cavill’s last, with actor Liam Hemsworth set to take on the role in Season 4. Cavill has not given an official reason for his departure, but it has been widely speculated that his frustrations with the adaptation’s fidelity may have become too much. for the actor. If that’s really the case, hopefully Season 3 will provide the fidelity to Sapkowski’s works that Cavill has been looking for all along.
