Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted on Instagram on Saturday a new workout from his Iron Paradise home gym. He decided to quote Randy Savage thanks to the funky-looking sunglasses he wore, then admitted that a match with the “Macho Man” was the one big dream fight he never got. Savage was already over in WCW by the time Johnson joined the WWF in 1996, and Savage chose never to step back into a WWE ring, even after WCW folded (he opted instead for a few appearances in TNA). Savage tragically passed away in 2011 after suffering a heart attack while driving in Florida.
“Feelin’ Macho in my “Ohhhh Yeah” shades 👓,” Johnson wrote. “(Savage was always my dream match because it would have been an honor to share the squared circle with him 🕊️)”
The Rock vs. Roman reigns at WrestleMania 39
Johnson vs. Roman reigns on Wrestle Mania 39 remains the big rumor of WWE’s April two-night event in Los Angeles. Paul Levesque, who now leads WWE booking, spoke about the match during an interview with Ariel Helwani back in September.
“If you’re arguably the most recognizable man in the world, the most famous actor in Hollywood, probably the most in-demand social media influencer out there, you’re busy,” Levesque said. “And that rush is fluid. In the blink of an eye, this is like, ‘Man, I gotta do this!’ And then 30 seconds later something else comes along because of the nature of what you’re doing, and it’s, ‘I thought I should do that, but I have to do this.’ It can change. A few years ago he and I went to work at WrestleMania. We even shot the video for it and we’re ready to roll. And over the course of the year that it was about to happen, it changed. opportunity changed.”
“I know this because I’ve had this conversation with him. When Rock is making a movie in Hollywood, he’s never in a position, takes off his elbow pads, and gets goosebumps all over his body because of the electricity that’s 100,000 people or whatever. it’s also giving him that moment, and he feels that passionately like no other. There’s nothing else on the planet that gives you that kick that WWE gives you when you’re in the center of that ring. And I know he knows that So I know somewhere deep inside him is that burning thing to go, ‘Oh, I need to feel that again. I need to get in there again.'” he continued. “Because that clock is ticking, ‘Can he?’ Because he looks like a million bucks but trust me you look as good as you are you hit that canvas things start falling off that shouldn’t fall off you you know it’s a hard thing the clock keeps ticking “So if there’s a time, it’s now. And I know he has a burning desire to take advantage of that time. It’s just a matter of, “Can he use all the other things to focus on that long enough?” for us to get it done?’ “It’s up to him. The platform is definitely there. WrestleMania. LA Two nights, we’ve already sold over 90,000 I believe… the chief is sitting there waiting for him, or anyone else he wants, right? It is magic. Magic, magic, magic of the highest levels in the city that he somehow became king of, right? And to have that experience again I know that must be a big fire hole in him I know this must be a desire It’s just what else does he need to set aside, and can he make this all work Because he juggles a lot So hopefully the answer is yes I would love see nothing more. But we’ll see. So to quote you again, ‘I’m saying there’s a chance.'”
