The Last of Us Episode 5 Preview spells doom for all

Viewers looking for the next episode of The last of us don’t have to wait long. Instead of battling the Super Bowl next week, Warner Bros. Discovery released the fifth installment of the hit thriller Friday night — and fans are already deeply concerned about what’s in store for the show’s ensemble. In a preview of Episode 5 released Sunday night, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Belle Ramsey) get caught up in a shootout while Henry and Sam get some backstory.

Everything then ends with a fiery scene in which the world’s coolest clicker rumbles on the main duo. See the preview for yourself below.

Who is Kathleen in The Last of Us?

Also prominently featured in the preview is Melanie Lynskey’s Kathleen, the leader of a Kansas City rebel group. She becomes one of the main antagonists of the season, despite not being a character in the video game’s source material.

“[Melanie’s Kathleen] is a very complicated character,” said series writer Craig Mazin. “She’s a brilliant actor, and we needed someone who could play someone who did horrible things, but when you got to know her you understood why and you really felt for her. One of the things that [The Last of Us game writer and series co-creator Neil Druckmann] created with the game was this philosophy that no one is ever pure good, no one is ever pure bad; we have the capacity to do both. And Melanie Lynskey plays someone who I think you’re going to hate and then love.”
