Matt Reeves’s The batter earned three Academy Award nominations this morning, all in the kind of technical categories for which action and superhero films have traditionally been a bit luckier to be recognized. The batter earned nominations for Best Sound, Best Makeup and Hair Styling, and Best Visual Effects. That puts the film in competition with some of the year’s biggest blockbusters, including Avatar: The way of the water, Top gun: Maverickand Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
