TBS is canceling another series after just one season

TBS has closed shop with Rat in the kitchen. On Monday it was announced that the reality competition series has been canceled after one season. The show premiered in March 2022 and was hosted by comedian Natasha Leggero and celebrity chef Ludo Lefebvre. It followed a group of chefs competing for a cash prize in a series of challenges. But all the while, one of them is trying to sabotage their efforts: the rat in the kitchen. The news of this cancellation was brought out by Kathleen Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Discovery’s US Networks Group, during a keynote at Reelscreen in Austin, Texas.

“We have decided not to do any more Rat in the Kitchen,” Finch explained. “It’s a great show, but we’ve got Food Network and Cooking Channel in the family now, so there’s no point in spreading the peanut butter so thin from a content perspective.”

“We do a lot of competition shows on Food Network for a much better price and we make them in a way that allows them to repeat,” Finch continued. “It’s quite a nuanced difference.”

Why is Warner Bros. canceling? Discovery so many movies and shows?

In recent months, TBS’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, canceled a number of projects, starting with the cancellation of bat girl and Scoob!: Holidays back in August. Both films, which were already completed and about to be released on HBO Max, were later reportedly canned for tax write-offs, apparently set to be shot in the third quarter of 2022. In the following days, Warner Bros. Discovery removed six exclusive HBO Max movies from their streaming platform, as well as a number of popular animated series.

“Looking at the broad breadth of all the shows that have been pulled off the service, it’s hard to even see a through line between them, ‘OK KO: Let’s Be Heroes! creator Ian Jones-Quartey said in an interview last month. “We’re still not sure why some things were removed and others weren’t. The whole thing is just very confusing and there hasn’t been much contact with anyone.”
