Steven Spielberg thinks The Dark Knight should have earned a Best Picture nomination

In recent years, a major complaint filed against The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was that they were out of touch and never nominated actual mainstream films for their top prize. Fighting that was a major reason why the Best Picture category grew into a sliding number of nominees, now stuck at ten nominees. After the rule change, more popular films finally started to enter the conversation District 9, Inglorious Bastards, Toy Story 3, American sniper, Mad Max: Fury Road, Bohemian Rhapsody, Black Pantherand joker.
