Stephen King’s Billy Summers Movie In The Works From JJ Abrams, Leonardo DiCaprio

The previously announced limited series adaptation of Stephen King’s Billy Summers is now a feature film and may have found its director and star. deadline reports that the series became a movie after some development and looking around at cable/streamers, though it’s unclear if the two things are related due to minimal interest on the TV side. JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way will produce the film, and according to trade, both will Star Wars: The Force Awakens director and the Once upon a time… in Hollywood star could make it their next project if all goes well in the development phase.

If Abrams signs on to direct, it will be his first film since then Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerwhile DiCaprio is currently waiting for his next collaboration with Martin Scorsese, Killers of the flower moon, to be released. The pair have never worked together before, but the film would be the latest King adaptation from Abrams’ company, which previously produced three other TV shows in the past, including 22.11.63, the limited edition adaptation of King’s novel starring James Franco that was released on Hulu; the anthology series Castle Rock who remixed multiple King stories into an all-new story; and the Apple TV+ miniseries Lisey’s storyall episodes King wrote himself.

Released in August 2021, the official description for Billy Summers from King’s website reads:

“Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a hitman and the best in the business. But he’ll only do the job if the target is a real bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there’s still one last hit. Billy is one of the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq War veteran, a Houdini when it comes to disappearing after the job is done. So what could go wrong? What about everything.”

Part war story, part love letter to small-town America and the people who live there, this spectacular, impossible-to-put novel features one of the most compelling and surprising duos in King fiction, who went to avenge the crimes of an extremely evil man.
