Some Cupra prices are rising in Australia - others are falling

Volkswagen-owned Spanish automaker Cupra has cut prices on four of its 10 models – but hiked prices on another four cars.

Volkswagen’s own Spanish performance car brand Cupra has increased prices for the third time in its six months on the Australian market – but cut prices on other models by up to $1500.

Cupra has slashed prices on four models — the Formentor V SUV and Leon VZ, VZe and VZx hottail sedans — by $500 to $1,500, citing “negotiati[on]” headquartered in Europe.

But it’s also raised prices on four other models — the Ateca VZx and the Formentor VZ, VZe and VZx — by $760 to $2,000, blaming “inflation, supplier costs and transportation increases.”

The company says the price cuts will be passed on to shoppers in the queue where they apply – and existing orders will be protected from the new price increases.

A 360-degree camera has also been added to the leather and power pack available on the Formentor V, VZ and VZe, accompanied by a $500 cost increase (from $2750 to $3250).

This camera was previously only offered as standard equipment for the Formentor VZx from model year 2023 (MY23).

Prices for the entry-level Born electric car and Leon V hatchback remain unchanged as deliveries of these vehicles have not yet started – and Leon V orders have not yet been opened.

Cupra notes that the Born Electric, Leon VZe plug-in hybrid, and Leon VZx gas hatchback now share a nationwide MSRP of $59,990 plus road expenses, but these vehicles’ drive-away prices aren’t at all states and territories alike.

As reported last week, Cupra Australia has received approximately 350 orders for the Born since it opened in December. However, due to a site mix-up, the company has contacted the first batch of customers to point out that a free maintenance offer had been applied in error to offer a refund of their deposit.
