Saturday Night Live poked fun at the true origins and history behind Sanrio’s Hello Kitty in a special skit featuring a surprise cameo from Natasha Lyonne, Spider-Man and more! Sanrio’s Hello Kitty has been one of the most remarkable mascots in the world, but it’s often forgotten what the true ideals behind Sanrio’s invention of the mascot actually were. When the icon was first created, one of the more interesting tidbits was that Hello Kitty is actually a young girl rather than the cat many fans thought it was.
Naturally, this became the main focus of Saturday Night Live’s take on Hello Kitty with the latest episode. Starring guest host Keke Palmer, a group of new interns at New York’s first Hello Kitty store were surprised to discover more information about the mascot, such as the fact that she’s supposed to be a little girl (who’s also supposedly 48 years old). is) instead of the cat Hello Kitty’s name would lead you to believe.

Throughout the episode, Keke Palmer’s apprentice continues to feel uncomfortable with each new piece of Hello Kitty knowledge she discovers, such as the young girl’s relationship with the other characters and who becomes a real animal in the Sanrio world. It’s something that’s gotten so out of hand that the rest of New York has also started protesting all things like a Hello Kitty mascot (Russian dolls Natasha Lyonne in disguise) notices that all of New York is behind their backs.

It’s been a very eventful episode overall for Keke Palmer, as during the monologue she actually revealed she was pregnant: “People said in my comments, ‘Keke is having a baby, Keke is pregnant.’ And I want to set the record straight, that’s me!” She later continued her announcement with, “But honestly this has been the biggest blessing and I’m so excited guys, I’m going to be a mom. Even though some people think it’s weird that I’m having a baby because I was a child actor, I just want but say: I’m 29, I’m an adult, I’m having sex, I have a house, I stormed the capital on January 6. You know, things grown-ups do.’
