Silvia Poppovic’s husband dies four months after the transplant

Marcello Bronstein received a bone marrow donation from his daughter; he was diagnosed with leukemia last year

The doctor Marcello Bronsteinhusband of the presenter Silvia Poppovic, died at the age of 78 this Friday the 25. In September last year he was diagnosed with leukemia and underwent chemotherapy. However, the treatment had no effect and in July of this year the doctor underwent a bone marrow transplant. The donor was Silvia and Marcello’s daughter, Ana, 22 years old. The death was confirmed by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology (SBEM) on social media. “Some news is too hard to deliver and this Friday SBEM Nacional feels heartbroken. There’s nothing to say at this point that would help, even if the medical community was preparing for it. A few weeks ago, Dr. Marcello Bronstein deteriorated, but there was always hope of recovery. It is with great sadness that we inform you this morning of his passing after much struggle for life,” reads an excerpt from the publication. The organization also stressed the importance of Marcello’s work in medicine: “We are very, very sad, but sure he was a warrior and will now rest in peace. Marcello was a foundational figure in the professional careers of thousands of endocrinologists, supporting and encouraging those around him, internationally recognized and awarded. Receive, Silvia, Ana and other family members, the affection, comfort, embrace and acknowledgment from the Board of SBEM, from the Editorial Board of the Archives of Endocrinology and Metabolism and from all of Brazilian Endocrinology, for whatever legacy remains.” Silvia has not appeared yet.
