Finally, Shazam!: Anger of the Gods has appeared in the cinema. Accompanying the movie are two post-credits scenes, one possibly teasing the greater DC Universe as a whole and the other doing what he can to help shape the plot for Shazam! 3. In conversation with ComicBook.com, Shazam! Helmer David F. Sandberg talked about the return of a surprise character and what it means for the next film in the franchise. Full spoilers ahead Shazam! Anger of the Gods. Proceed with caution if you have yet to see the film.

While Mister Mind didn’t appear in the movie itself, the beloved villain returned for the post-credits scene, once again speaking to Dr. Sivana by Mark Strong. At one point, the critter was supposed to feature in the film, though Sandberg and crew had to cut it to shorten the story.

“Our original idea was actually to have Mister Mind and Sivana in this movie and that it was Mister Mind who enabled the gods to get here as part of a bigger plan, but it was just too much story to tell , because the movie had been without it for over two hours,” Sandberg recalls. “We just had to let the gods come this time, and I’d like to see more of Mister Mind, but maybe another time.”

Does this mean Sandberg is already working on a third? Shazam! Fto lick? Not quite.

“I’d love to do something with Mister Mind, but it’s more just because we know people who’ve seen the first movie will say, ‘Hey, what happened to the worm man,'” the director continued. “We had to do a little check-in, it felt like, just to show that, no, he’s still here. He’s still working on his plans. It’s just taking a while.”

Should Sandberg be able to return for another movie in the franchise, it will be after a short hiatus with some other projects. He added that he would much rather do a smaller project than two superhero blockbusters on the side.

“I definitely need a little break now that I’ve done two Shazam movies back to back, and it takes a lot of time and a lot of work,” Sandberg concludes. “Right now I’m like, ‘Let’s make a little horror movie, or something really fast and fun.'”

Also new cast members are Rachel Zegler as Anthea, Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso.
