Sami Zayn takes on the World Cup tournament, Shotzi vs Baszler and more

WWE gears up for Survivor Series War Games, and with just over a week to go, tonight’s episode of SmackDown will definitely carry over to the big event, but that’s not all. SmackDown will also continue with the World Cup tournament, with two more first-round match-ups, though one is in question, as Mustafa Ali is technically cleared to wrestle, but is still far from 100% and sports affiliations are finalized has ribs. As for War Games, Shotzi will face Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the premium live event, and tonight she’ll take on Rousey’s ally and friend in a pre-title match match.

Shotzi won the Six Pack match to earn a shot at Rousey’s SmackDown Women’s Championship at War Games, and she and Baszler would immediately butt as a result, with Baszler attacking her backstage as Rousey watched. Tonight is Shotzi’s chance for revenge, and we’ll have to wait and see if Shotzi will bring reinforcements to ensure the odds are even.

Returning to the World Cup tournament, Santos Escobar defeated Shinsuke Nakamura last week, while Braun Strowman defeated Jinder Mahal. They will move on to the next round and face whoever wins tonight’s first round matches, which are Ali vs. Ricochet and Butch vs. Sami Zayn.

With The Bloodline in the house, it’s going to be tough for Butch to win that match, but maybe he can win by sheer will (or with some help to balance the scales from Ridge Holland and Sheamus). Ali’s injury will certainly play into his hands in his match against Ricochet, but maybe luck is on his side.

Lately, both Raw and SmackDown have featured several surprise returns and intriguing backstage segments, so we may get another one of them on tonight’s show. One of the most memorable moments from last week was the head-to-head exchange between Bray Wyatt and LA Knight, so maybe we’ll get more of the two to cement this feud tonight? One can only hope.
