Oscar nominations released this morning and RRR fans are shocked that their favorite movie, ie last year’s, didn’t get the Best Picture nomination. Despite dynamite returns for other original projects in other corners of the film world, SS Rajamouli’s work got a nod for Best Original Song and there are some strong contenders in the field. Still, for one of last year’s most memorable releases, it’s strange to see the film that brought the world “Naatu Naatu” not be nominated for the biggest award of the night.
The nominees are for Best Picture All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.

Despite that choice by The Academy, fans have been very supportive of the film and its stars. The popularity around RRR is so great that a sequel has been announced. A recent Q&A session with Rajamouli revealed that they are already writing the story for the next movie. V. Vojayendra Prasad helps to write the feature film along with his son. “My father is the story writer for all my films,” Rajamouli told the crowd at the screening. [the RRR sequel] and he’s working on the story.”

Wild times for sure
RRR being left out of the beat picture is a tragedy, it’s not a censure. It’s the only movie I’ve given 5 stars to and I wish it was in it, but I’m not mad that whatever was nominated deserved to be

Lots of snobs
It’s only natural that a lot of snubs would happen in a good movie year (The Woman King, RRR, Decision to Leave chief, among others).
But hey @The Academy, let’s see what we do with the best photo/best international category. Double dipping there feels wrong.

Some big misses this year
Some notable snubs this year: The Woman King, RRR, Decision to Leave.
And while I know it’s not really doing the rounds on the awards circuit, I’m a little pissed that The Northman wasn’t nominated for anything.
BUT, overall a solid showing for this year’s Oscars.
