Could be Fear the walking dead live on as a comic book? Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson co-created AMC’s first spin-off The living Deadthe original live-action adaptation of Kirkman’s Image Comics saga that ended in 2019 after 16 years of a 193-issue run. This month, AMC announced FearThe upcoming eighth season of ‘s would be its last: the final 12 episodes will air in two parts, each consisting of six episodes, starting May 14 on cable and AMC+ before ending later in 2023. Fear TWD comic book adaptation is “extremely unlikely,” Kirkman reveals the odds are “not zero.”
“There’s a not zero, but barely, chance of that ever happening,” Kirkman wrote in response to a fan’s letter asking about a Fear the walking dead comic book inside The Walking Dead Deluxe #55, is now in the stands. “It’s extremely, extremely unlikely.”
Equally unlikely – but not impossible – is Kirkman returning to write another Walking dead comic book.
“The closest we’ll probably get to this is an entirely new series of mine that’s completely separate from it TWD but has a topic that would appeal TWD fans,” read Kirkman’s reply to a fan asking about another ongoing series. “That’s the best I could do right now.”
When another Luxury reader asked if Kirkman could revive The living Dead After bringing the book to a surprising conclusion in 2019, Kirkman wrote, “I’ve given 16 years of my life to this world. I may be able to do something about it in the future, but I doubt I’ll ever return to a to do a full book.” series. But… I would never say never.”
Fear the walking dead debuted on AMC in 2015 as a companion series to The living Dead, then the No. 1 show on television among adults aged 18-49. Located on the west coast – across the country from Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group of southern survivors – Fear was initially established earlier in the timeline at the beginning of the outbreak.
Kirkman, who serves as an executive producer on the series he co-created, originally described Fear as taking viewers “back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of The living Dead. A time when danger lurked around every corner and the greatest chance of your dying was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you.”
Season 8 of Fear picks up where Season 7 left off – with Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and Morgan Jones (Lennie James) heading to PADRE – before jumping seven years into the future. The time jump moves Fear closer to his contemporaries in the present day Walking dead Universe.
Fear the walking dead: The Final Season – Part 1 premieres Sunday, May 14 at 9pm ET/PT on AMC and AMC+. Part 2 with six episodes will premiere later in 2023. Stay informed Comic book/TWD and follow @NewsOfTheDead for more TWD Universe coverage.
