Rick and Morty cut ties with co-creator and star Justin Roiland following allegations of domestic violence

Rick and Morty will continue without Justin Roiland, as Adult Swim has announced that they are severing ties with the series co-creator following his domestic violence allegations. According to the official statement on the series’ Twitter account, Rick and Morty will continue with the cast and crew hard at work in Season 7, “Adult Swim has ended its partnership with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue.” The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on Season 7.” But there’s no word yet on what that means for the voices behind the two protagonists moving forward.

As originally reported by NBC News earlier this month, Rick and Morty Series co-creator Justin Roiland was charged with domestic violence in Orange County, California following an incident filed in 2020. The co-creator was charged with one felony of domestic violence involving bodily harm and one felony of false imprisonment by threat, violence, fraud and/or deceit. The complaint filed in 2020 states that the incident took place in January 2020, to which Roiland pleaded not guilty on both counts.

What will happen to Season 7 of Rick and Morty?

The details of the case itself are being kept under wraps, but Roiland will not go any further officially Rick and Morty. With Adult Swim severing ties with the series’ co-creator and the protagonist behind the two main voices (and many others everywhere), fans wondered if that meant the series itself would be canceled, despite its massive episode run. has yet to be filled. With Season 6 ending last year and work on Season 8 appearing to be happening, Adult Swim revealed that they are committed to working with the rest of the team to continue the series.

This likely means that Roiland will be recast for season 7 of the series, but of course there’s yet to be an announcement made on that front. Season 7 was previously slated to release sometime this year on the previous production schedule, but that’s likely to be impacted as well since this is such a huge change for the series moving forward.
