PSN disabled for many PlayStation users

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) was down for many users this afternoon. On a day when PlayStation is having one of the biggest launches of the year on PS5 Hogwarts legacy (at least through early access), it seems that the online service that powers PlayStation consoles has been in trouble. And while it’s not yet clear what could be causing this problem, chances are Sony is currently looking at a solution.

Within the past hour, PlayStation users on both PS5 and PS4 began reporting heavily that PSN was experiencing outages. Based on reported user outages seen on Down detector, PSN problems started around 4:30pm ET today and have only gotten worse over time. At the time of writing, these PSN issues have not yet been resolved, meaning that a number of people will not be able to play online games or access other features associated with PlayStation’s internet services.

The most common problem that PlayStation users seem to encounter leads to a message stating “Unable to use this content. Unable to connect to the server to verify your license. Please wait and try again.” While this is a common problem that occurs with PlayStation from time to time, you normally only need to restore the licenses from the PS5 or PS4’s menu to resolve the issue. This time, however, this solution doesn’t work, meaning Sony has bigger problems right now.

As mentioned earlier, Sony hasn’t made a statement on the status of PSN yet, so it’s hard to know how long a proper fix can come. Normally, however, such outages do not last long. So if you’re having problems for yourself on PS5 or PS4, hopefully they won’t affect your own ability to play different games for much longer.
