Four engines will be available in Australia – two petrol, one diesel and one plug-in hybrid – until the X5 M arrives at a later date.
All models get 48-volt mild hybrid systems that can deliver an extra 9kW and 200Nm under hard acceleration, or keep the car moving and shut off at low accelerator pedal loads. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard across the range.
The xDrive 40i upgrades its 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engines to 280kW and 540Nm (plus 35kW/90Nm when mild hybrid system performance is factored in) – while the xDrive 30d has a 3.0 -litre straight-six retains the turbo diesel engine with 210 kW and 650 Nm.
The M60i replaces the M50i, but output from its 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine remains unchanged at 390kW and 750Nm, for a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds.
In the meantime, the xDrive 45e has been upgraded to the xDrive 50e, with a 230 kW 3.0-liter petrol in-line six-cylinder (plus 30 kW) and a 145 kW electric motor (plus 62 kW) for a total output of 360 kW and 700 Nm ( plus 70kW/100Nm over the 45e).
