The Pokemon Company celebrates the franchise passing the 1,000 Pokemon milestone with a new video. The video, released on YouTube and social media earlier today, contained no announcements, but is a fun celebration of every Pokemon in the franchise, with a particular highlight for the new Pokemon that debuted in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Appropriately, Gholdengo, the evolution of Gimmighoul that requires 999 coins to evolve, is officially the 1000th Pokemon in the franchise. The video also served as the official introduction to several Pokemon from the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games, including the evolved Starters and the various Paradox Pokemon. You can watch the full video below:
For a while, it seemed that The Pokemon Company had been deliberately trying to slow down the inevitable push to 1,000 Pokemon. pokemon x and y and Pokémon Sun and Moon featured a smaller selection of “new” Pokemon, though the franchise supplemented it with new Mega Evolutions and regional variants. However, pokemon sword and shield brought back a more robust roster of new Pokemon, almost confirming we’d cross the 1,000 mark once a full pair of new games were released.
The Pokemon Company has said what the future will hold Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, outside of a highly anticipated second patch that will likely fix some of the many bugs in the new games. DLC for the games is expected to be released sometime this year, as there are several regions of Paldea left to explore and more revelations about the mysterious Area Zero and the Pokemon responsible for the Terastal phenomenon.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is now available for the Nintendo Switch.
