Peter Jackson’s King Kong climbs into the Netflix Top 10

A surprise movie is climbing the charts on Netflix, Peter Jackson’s 2005 remake King Kong. The three-hour epic arrived on the service just earlier this week and has captured the attention of movie fans everywhere. Not only does this version of King Kong has cracked the Netflix Top 10, it climbs up the list as Skull Island’s great ape climbing the Empire State Building. Yesterday the movie was #8 on the streamer’s daily Top 10, but today it’s risen to #4. Based on what else is popular…it could go even higher.

Fans of Peter Jackson know he’s obsessed with King Kong years, and remaking the classic film was essentially his prize for winning Under the spell of the Ring trilogy for a landing. He tried to remake it before before doing The Lord of the Rings movies, but that version fell apart. The famous movie where Andy Serkis did the motion capture for Kong, which paved the way for him to play Caesar in the Planet of the Apes movies. There are also roles for Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black.

from Peter Jackson King Kong grossed over $562 million at the worldwide box office and has an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Kong would go on to be nominated for four Academy Awards, winning three of them, and talk of a sequel popping up after its success. Godzilla against Kong director Adam Wingard previously revealed that he was approached by Jackson to take on that sequel, but it never got off the ground.
