Pick up sometime after the last episode of The living Deadthe spin-off starts with the question: how did Daryl Dixon end up in France? “Somehow I’m put there,” Reedus teased, “and I’m not going there of my own free will.”

“There was part of it [the series finale] where I kind of smiled, and that tone kind of carries over into the spin-off,” Reedus shared Comic‘s Brandon Davis from his final scene of the flagship series. “And then things go horribly wrong, like everything else The living Dead. It kind of felt like I was going to see what’s new in the world, you know what I mean? Everyone was safe and I was going to see what’s out there.”

The actor has been in France to produce the spin-off, which cast Clémence Poésy and Adam Nagaitis opposite Reedus. Filming officially started in October under showrunner David Zabel and Walking dead veteran director-executive producer Greg Nicotero.

“It’s epic in scale,” Reedus said. “The tone is very different, the [cinematography is] completely different. The lighting is different. We are in castles and the storyline has a religious atmosphere. Part of the story is that I am around a group of people who speak French. I’m trying to figure it out like, “Is this going to be a fight?”

Part of the story is that American Daryl Dixon is a “fish out of water” in post-apocalyptic Paris who is “trying to figure out how to swim,” Reedus said. “It’s all part of the storyline. The dailies go back and forth to America, and everyone’s crazy. It looks great.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere with a six-episode first season in 2023 on AMC and AMC+.
