Nintendo Switch Online is making new Pokemon goodies available

Simultaneously with the release of Pokemon Scarlet and purple, Nintendo is giving Nintendo Switch Online members some new freebies associated with the franchise. In addition to giving subscribers an extensive catalog of retro games that can be accessed through Switch Online, Nintendo often gives out some other goodies to those using the service. Now Switch Online members can find a number of different Pokemon-related icons.

Starting this week and through December 25, Nintendo is making several icons related to Pokemon Scarlet and purple available via the “Missions and Rewards” section of Switch Online. Currently there are three of these icons available to earn as part of Wave 1 and they contain the new starter Pokemon from Scarlet and purple. Wave 2 will then begin on November 24 with the addition of two new icons and will be followed by Wave 3 a week later. Waves 4 and 5 will then continue on this weekly cadence leading up to December 25 and the promotion will end.

In general, game icons are something that Nintendo has started releasing a lot more over the past year through Nintendo Switch Online. And while some of these icons are linked to older Nintendo franchises or games, it’s cool to see that the Japanese game publisher was able to make this month’s rotational lineup with Scarlet and purple.

As usual, it’s worth emphasizing that if you want to get one of these Pokemon icons for yourself, you technically have to buy them with Platinum Points. While this means the icons aren’t technically “free,” Platinum Points are earned simply by completing missions that Nintendo Switch Online offers. However, these missions are often quite simple, meaning you don’t need much to earn and redeem this currency on the Scarlet and purple user icons.

Will you be looking for these Pokemon icons for yourself via Nintendo Switch Online? And what kind of extra goodies do you hope to see land on the service later? Let me know in the comments or message me on Twitter at @MooreMan12.
