2021, Metroid fear released on Nintendo Switch. Developed by MercurySteam, the game received critical acclaim and the best sales the series has ever seen. A new rumor suggests that the developer is already working on a new installment in the series, due for release in 2025. While readers should always take things like this with a grain of salt, it’s worth noting that this rumor comes from Spanish leaker Nash Weedle. Nash Weedle leaked the existence of Metroid fear before the official announcement, so they have proven reliable in the past!

De verdad es que en ese momento de 2020 tenía muchos thatos pero la confirmación llegó un par de meses antes de la revelación del juego. What interests me the most is this:

If this rumor is true, this will be the third Metroid game developed by MercurySteam. The team continued to work in 2017 Metroid: Samus returns for the Nintendo 3DS. The developer has clearly proven its ability to handle the 2D Metroid series, and it wouldn’t be too surprising to see another game in the franchise. Of course, it’s unclear if this would be a completely new game (like Wire), or another remake (such as Sam returns). There’s also the question of which console it will eventually be released for; Nintendo has not yet announced a successor to the Switch platform, but it is certainly possible that the system will be released in 2025.
For now, Metroid fans will just have to wait and see! The franchise has never been a huge seller for Nintendo, but Metroid fear did receive a lot of attention from gamers who had no prior experience with the series. A quick follow-up would help build on that success, especially if it eventually gets released on the next Nintendo platform. There is also Metroid Prime 4, which is still in development for Nintendo Switch at Retro Studios, although it’s been a while since there’s been any new information. Either way, it looks like Samus Aran fans will have at least one new adventure to look forward to, if not two!
