A new King Kong game is in the works. King Kong is one of the most iconic characters in fiction. The character made his big screen debut in 1933 and has been a staple of pop culture ever since. It’s been reprized countless times in books, games, and movies, and landed all sorts of major blockbusters from directors like Peter Jackson with all-star casts. King Kong is a mainstay of cinema, but he’s been missing from video games for a while. Outside of a somewhat strange appearance Call of Duty: Warzone in 2022 with his good friend Godzilla, King Kong has not been represented in a game for a while. The last AAA King Kong game was from Ubisoft in 2005 and tied in with the Peter Jackson movie.
However, he will return to our consoles soon. As This is reported by Licensing MagazineDeVito Artworks partners with GameMill Entertainment (Nickelodeon All Star Brawl) to produce a new cross-platform King Kong game. We don’t know much about it at the moment. We don’t know the genre, the exact platforms or even when it will be released, but rest assured, King Kong is coming.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the talented team at GameMill Entertainment who will give King Kong fans and gamers alike the opportunity to experience the primal world of King Kong in a gamified way,” said Joe DeVito of DeVito Artworks . “We continue to expand our King Kong licensing program across a variety of categories, including VR arcade games, collectibles, comic books, and board games.”
Ubisoft’s King Kong game was quite loved as players got to play as humans who battled monsters on Skull Island and then switched to King Kong for epic set pieces. Whether GameMill chooses to go that route or do something simpler remains to be seen. However, there’s no shortage of untapped potential for King Kong video game opportunities, so hopefully they can get this right.
