Neil Gaiman confirms Dead Boy Detectives is still happening on HBO Max

Now that James Gunn and Peter Safran have joined to head up DC Studios, the question of which movies and television shows will be brought to life is on the minds of many fans. In addition to a number of potential projects set within the DC Universe, there are a number of titles set within alternate continuities, including Detectives of dead boys, a series about to debut on HBO Max. Aside from a few stray casting updates, details on the series are few and far between, but a new tweet from the comedy co-creator, Neil Gaiman, may help here.

Gaiman did not only confirm that on Tuesday Detectives of dead boys still happening and currently filming but that “it’s so good.”

What’s Detectives of dead boys as regards?

Detectives of dead boys offers a fresh take on a ghost story that explores loss, grief and death through the lens of Edwin Payne (newcomer George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (The Lodge‘s Jayden Revri), two dead British teenagers, and their very much alive friend, Crystal Palace (Last night in Sohofrom Kassius Nelson). Other stars of the series include Briana Cuoco (The flight attendant, Harley Quinn) as Jenny the Butcher, Yuyu Kitamura (The expats) as Niko and Jenn Lyon (Claws, justified) as Esther. Ruth Connell (Supernatural) also reprises her role as the night nurse from the “Dead Patrol” episode of Doom patrol.

“We are excited to continue expanding into the DC Universe with Steve, Jeremy and the Berlanti team with this exciting new spin on a detective series,” Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, said in a statement. “We were fascinated by the world of the Dead Boy Detectives where Steve and Jeremy were first introduced Doom patroland can’t wait to follow the supernatural sleuths into the lurid mysteries to come.”

Who produces Detectives of dead boys?

The series is led by Doom patrol and The stewardess‘s Steve Yockey, who also wrote the pilot episode, and Arrow‘s Beth Schwartz. The pilot is led by Superman & LoisLee Toland Krieger. Yockey, Jeremy Carver (Doom Patrol, Supernatural), Greg Berlanti (You, the Flash), and Sarah Schechter (The Flight Attendant, You) are executive producers on the series. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

“I’ve been obsessed with this comic for a long time, so it’s a real passion project,” Yockey repeated. “And Jeremy, Berlanti Productions, DC, WBTV, HBO Max – they all encourage me to run with every wild, bizarre and unsettling choice. The result is really dark fun.”
