On New Year’s Day, Jeremy Renner heroically saved a family member from getting stuck in the snow and was tragically struck by his own snow plow. Renner was in a stable but critical condition for a few days until he posted an update to his Instagram revealing that while he is seriously injured, he is alive and well. According to his rep, the actor suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” and required emergency surgery the next day. Fans and actors, including his Marvel Studios costars, have been sending him well wishes and love since the accident, and now he’s the co-creator of Mayor of Kingston, starring Renner, Hugh Dillion has given a heartwarming update on the actor’s condition. During a recent interview with ComicBook.con’s Chris Killian, Dillon described his relief after finally speaking to the actor following his injuries.
“It was the biggest relief that it was such a rollercoaster because when I got the news I wanted to fly out and find him and see him,” Dillon told us. “Then he sent me a video the next day, the biggest relief in my life, because it was so funny and blasphemous and I thought, okay, he’s coming back. He’s just so funny. He’s like a brother to me. It is like we spent two years working on this show this is my show i made with taylor sheridan and he is [Renner] just unstoppable. He is an exceptional talent and the crew loves him. The cast loves him. I love him, and it was, and my world stopped. I just want him to recover and then get the video and, hey, you know, just blasphemy, blasphemy. You know, it just made me laugh and cry at the same time and I just thank God that he’s okay and that he’s, you know, on the road to recovery.”
Sheriff Darin Balaam, giving a full account of what happened after speaking to eyewitnesses and examining the scene himself, called the event “a tragic accident” and said they believe Renner was not harmed at all during the event. According to the sheriff, Renner tried to remove a car that was stuck in the snow, then left his snowcat, causing him to run over and crush his leg. According to initial reports of the incident, he was in “critical but stable condition”.
“At this point in the investigation, we do not believe Mr. Renner had a disability and we believe this is a tragic accident,” Sheriff Balaam said in the latest update. “Washoe Sheriff’s Office owns his PistenBully (the Snow Cat) and we are analyzing it to rule out any mechanical failures that may have caused it to roll. This is part of our normal investigative process for any major investigation. As I said before stated, this investigation is ongoing. However, we do not suspect foul play, I repeat we do not suspect foul play. We believe this was a tragic accident.”
A statement from Renner’s family was also released on Monday, confirming the extent of the injuries he sustained.
“We can confirm that Jeremy suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and underwent surgery today, January 2, 2023. He has returned from surgery and remains in intensive care in critical but stable condition,” the family’s statement read. “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who care for him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, and the Carano and Murdock families.
