Matt Reeves Teases “Big Bat-Verse Plan”

The bat verse begins with The batter, Filmmaker Matt Reeves’ standalone film franchise, separate from the DC Universe, is being developed by DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Now that the DC duo has mapped out a 10-year plan starting with a new and younger Superman, Reeves has his own new and younger Dark Knight in Robert Pattinson’s Batman. As part of a multi-year agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, Reeves oversees the Bat-Verse: the director’s term for the spin-off spawning franchise that will expand to include The Batman2 and multiple live-action television series for HBO Max, including The penguin and Arkham Asylum.

After confirming that he has started developing the script for The batter continued, Reeves shared Yahoo Entertainment he will meet with DC Studios buyers this month to discuss plans for the Bat-Verse and Gunn and Safran’s DCU.

“We talked a few times,” Reeves said. “I need to get together with [Gunn and Safran] sometimes this month. They’ve been working feverishly at what they do, and I’ve been working hard with my partners at what we do – all our shows and everything. So we sit down where we talk about everything that’s going on and what the arcs of these two things are. I’m excited to hear what they’re doing.”

Reeves serves as executive producer of the penguin spin-off, a limited-edition DC drama that expands across the world he created The batter, continuing the story of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) “as he violently seizes power in Gotham.” Also in the works: an untitled cop drama about the Gotham City Police Department and the as-yet untitled Arkham Asylum series, focusing on the infernal psychiatric hospital that houses criminals like the Riddler (Paul Dano) and the Joker (Barry Keoghan).

As for how the Bat-Verse co-exist outside of the DCU, Reeves said of Gunn and Safran, “They’ve got a big plan, and I’ve got this big Bat-verse plan. It’s about us really getting to know each other. is gonna be fun.”

In an exclusive interview with Comic book for the 15th anniversary of the Reeves-directed Clover field — which spawned its own cinematic universe — Reeves revealed an update on The Batman2saying he’s “hard at work on the script.”

“My partner and I are deep into it,” Reeves added, “and I’m excited about what we’re going to do.”

Clover field is now available to own at 4K; The batter is available to own at 4K and stream on HBO Max.
