Black Panther: Wakanda Forever closes its second weekend at the box office and has already made $500 million worldwide. Since Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing, Marvel fans have been wondering who would take over the mantle of Black Panther in the upcoming movie. While it was revealed before the film’s release that Boseman’s T’Challa would be killed off, Marvel hasn’t officially announced who the new Black Panther would be. With the movie out for a few weeks now, the studio has officially shared a poster of the new hero. If you’re still not sure who’s taking on the mantle, now would be a good time to stop reading.
“Check out the brand new poster for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever from Marvel Studios, now in theaters only,” Marvel wrote on Instagram alongside the new poster of Shuri (Letitia Wright) in her Black Panther suit. There were a few people in the comments who seemed upset by the spoiler, but for the most part, fans are excited about the new image. You can watch it below:
How does the Black Panther Cast feeling about the call to recast T’Challa?
When it comes to Black Panther’s future, fans seem split on whether a new character should take over the mantle or if T’Challa’s character should be recast. Wakanda forever ended with a nice middle ground, but some of the film’s cast has answered fans’ request for a recast. Lupita Nyong’o recently explained why she opposes the idea, and Winston Duke was also asked about it.
“I think for this iteration of Black Panther, it’s really hard for me to really comment on something like that. Because I believe that’s Chadwick’s role,” Duke explained. “Chadwick made this and Black Panther wouldn’t be the same without Chadwick Boseman, who stood for the things he stood for. When you cast a person, you’re also casting their experiences, their politics, all these things. Black Panther, to my mind, was opinion dictated by the actor who did it, so I feel, as it is, the decision that was made to keep T’Challa, Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa is one that has a lot of nobility in it.”
