M3GAN publishes first-view featurette

The first trailers for Blumhouse Productions’ upcoming horror movie M3GAN have taken social media by storm as the disturbing images of a life-sized doll coming to life and performing a variety of tasks have stuck in audiences’ brains, with an all-new featurette for the film bringing further insight into the experience. James Wan is the producer of the new film, which helped give birth to an iconic deadly doll of all time Conjure it‘s Annabelle, but while the evil of those toys was supernatural in nature, M3GAN instills a different kind of fear. M3GAN lands in theaters on January 6, 2023.

She’s more than just a toy. She is part of the family. Of the most prolific minds in horror — James Wan, the filmmaker behind the Saw, insidious, and Conjure it franchises, and Blumhouse, the producer of the Halloween movies, The black phoneand The Invisible Man –– comes a fresh new face in fear.

M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a lifelike doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by the brilliant roboticist of the toy company Gemma (Get out‘s Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector to the child she is attached to.

When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her 8-year-old orphaned niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Ghost of Hill House), Gemma is insecure and unprepared to grow older. Under a heavy workload, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to solve both problems – a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.

Produced by Jason Blum and James Wan, M3GAN is directed by award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Evil, the nun 2) based on a story by Akela Cooper and James Wan.

The film also stars Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will and grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy Bebop), Lori Dungey (Under the spell of the ring: the company of the ringexpanded edition) and Stephane Garneau-Monten (Straightforward).

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse present an Atomic Monster production in collaboration with Divide/Conquer. The film’s executive producers are Allison Williams, Mark Katchur, Ryan Turek, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.

M3GAN lands in theaters on January 6, 2023.
