Car enthusiast, actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson is selling his Lancia Delta Integrale less than two years after purchasing the collectible Italian hot hatch.
A rare rally-bred hot hatch – a Lancia Delta Integrale – owned by car enthusiast, comedian and actor Rowan Atikinson is set to go up for auction in the UK next month.
It is expected to sell for between £65,000 (AU$116,200) and £75,000 (AU$134,100).
Listed by Silverstone Auctionsthis 1993 Lancia Delta (officially known as the HF Integrale Evo II) is currently owned by Rowan Atkinson – the star of comedies like black viper, MR Bean and Johnny English.
The listing claims Mr Atkinson bought the Italian four-wheel drive hot hatch in May 2021 and subsequently drove it just over 2000km before deciding to sell the car.
The Lancia Delta hatchback was never sold in Australia, but it became a global motorsport icon thanks to its success in the World Rally Championship, helping the Italian automaker win six consecutive manufacturers’ titles from 1987 to 1992 – a record that still stands today has endured.
After its presentation in 1979, the first generation Lancia Delta underwent a series of changes over its 14-year life, culminating in the introduction of the HF Integrale Evo II variant in 1993.
Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II produced up to 158 kW and 314 Nm in on-road conditions, transmitted to all four wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
All examples of the Hot Hatch were built to be right-hand drive, although Mr Atkinson’s car was first delivered to Japan (a left-hand drive country) before being imported to the UK in 2011.
This Lancia Delta is one of many legendary cars with racing heritage owned by Mr Atkinson.
The McLaren F1 is possibly Mr Atkinson’s most famous car, which the actor bought in 1997 for £640,000 (AU$2.07 million today).
Despite a minor crash in 1999 and a major crash in 2011 – resulting in an insurance payout of £910,000 (AU$1.63m), reportedly the largest in UK history at the time – Atkinson’s McLaren F1 was sold in 2015.
The supercar was reportedly sold for its £8 million (AU$16 million) asking price, setting a new price record for the model.
Other cars previously owned by the MR Bean Star owns a Honda NSX and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, while the actor has also driven an Aston Martin Vantage V8 and a US-made 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint – which sold for £56,250 (AU$100,600) last year.
Rowan Atkinson’s Lancia Delta Integrale is set to be auctioned off by Silverstone Auctions on February 25th (UK time) at the Race Retro Show.
