I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man and I was so, so excited and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it. Obviously he was the right one But I remember that was a big thing at the time, calling back for callbacks and the director used to be a music video director. So I thought, “I’ve got a place here. But you know what? I like the process of auditioning and putting yourself out there and having to prove yourself.”

“I mean, yes, I’m definitely open to anything if it feels right,” Garfield said at the time. “Peter and Spider-Man, those characters are all about service, for the greater good and for the many. He’s a working-class boy from Queens who knows struggle and loss and has a deep sense of empathy. I would try to understand Peter Parker’s ethical framework. lending in that, if there was a chance to step back and tell more of that story, I should feel very confident and sure of myself.
