James Gunn responds perfectly to fan outrage over Henry Cavill’s Superman Exit

DC Studios head James Gunn responds to continued fan backlash about Henry Cavill’s Superman no longer being part of the DC Universe film franchise. It got ugly Gunn’s Instagram page: The filmmaker was just trying to celebrate his cat Emily in a photo post, which didn’t stop angry DC fans (read: Snyderverse fans) from Gunn, his co-head at DC Studios Peter Safran, and the very new DCU plan … that no one has seen yet.

IG User”@edgedmoon1141″ had this choice comment for James Gunn: “F*** your cat dude. You pissed off an entire franchise of fans. Nobody gives a shit about your cat. #Cavilisclark

James Gunn didn’t miss a beat in his response and slyly reminded @Edge[Lord]Moon1141 that “It would be great if you at least knew how to spell an actor’s name if you were so outraged.

In case you missed it the first time, @edgedmoon1141 did indeed spell Henry CaviLL as ‘Henry CaviL’. Sure, the angry DC fan probably knows how to spell Henry Cavill’s name correctly – only in his furious finger flicks on the keyboard did he screw up. In that sense, Gunn’s point is still valid: if you want to be angry enough, tweet a “F*ck your pet!” message to a famous filmmaker, you might as well take the time to spell the message yourself – and certainly the name of the person you’re engaged to. Seems sensible.

Henry Cavill’s continued reaction to Superman is more understandable than most DC outrage. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Black Adam has officially reintroduced Cavill’s Superman, after the character was left in limbo for years; The Rock even had a potential “Black Adam vs. Superman” movie in the works. However, after Black Adam underperformed at the box office, Warner Bros. launched. Discovery DC Studios and plans for a rebooted universe – without Cavill’s Superman or The Rock’s Black Adam. It was a moment that greatly undermined fans’ faith in the DC movie franchise, when Cavill walked in and then was sent out again…

At the moment, James Gunn is writing a script for a new Superman reboot movie within the new DC Universe franchise – with a new actor playing Superman. And, as you can clearly see above, from the first world to the last, he’s going to feel faint about it.

Fans are still expecting some major DC Universe announcements early this year.
