Straight from the Disney panel at CCXP, Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company have released the first official trailer for the highly anticipated Indiana Jones5! Not only was the first full footage of the sequel released, but the title of the new movie in the series was also confirmed, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate. The fifth film in the series, scheduled for release on June 30, 2023, marks the first time in 15 years that Ford puts on the fedora and picks up the whip. It’s worth noting that Lucasfilm didn’t expressly said the fifth Indiana Jones movie is the last in the franchise, but everything surrounding the movie has largely hinted at it being the finale in the series. At the introduction of the film’s trailer at D23 earlier this year, Ford said, “This is it, I’m not falling for you again!” Moreover, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said the same thing Vanity Fair and told them, “We would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford. I can tell you I just finished the fifth movie and there wasn’t a day I wasn’t on set where I wasn’t like, ‘Yeah – this is Indiana Jones.'”
Despite this, there are reports that the Indiana Jones franchise may be expanded back into television on a large scale. It was previously reported that a Disney+ TV series was in the works as a spin-off of the feature films, with later news revealing that it would follow Abner Ravenwood, Marion Ravenwood’s father and mentor to Indiana Jones. If the series sees the light of day, it would mark the continuation of the series, just in a way that doesn’t require Harrison Ford.
