Huge update on the future of FTR with AEW in 2023

FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler will be from AEW television for the foreseeable future, as confirmed by Harwood in the latest episode of his FTR podcast. Harwood confirmed with Fightul last month that their contract with the company would expire in April and that they were considering leaving the promotion. In the weeks that followed, the pair failed to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships and dropped the ROH, AAA and IWGP Tag Team Championships as part of a 0-5 losing streak.

“Tony is nothing but first class to me and Dan [Dax] since day one,” said Harwood (h/t combative). “There are things we disagree on, like every boss and every employee, even every friend. There are times when I felt like opportunities were missed for us. There were times when I was super happy with everything we were doing, but there’s a time that we’ve come to the end of our careers. Right now, at this point in our careers, it’s the most important time in our careers. I mean that financially, creatively and personally. It’s the most important time in our careers. With that being said, we’ve asked for and been given the next few months off from television so we can sit back, think, decide, let bodies heal and figure out what we’re going to do for the next few months. years. Whatever we decide to do after that, it will absolutely be the last thing we do wrestling.”

“We will have an answer by April,” he continued. “I have to consider my health, my family, my creativity and my personal life. I know what I want to do, but no matter what we do, I want to be respected. I feel like we did something special in 2022 and that’s largely for the fans we deserve to build on our legacy for ourselves but we also owe it to the fans to build on that legacy because they made us over the last year I don’t know exactly how long we will be gone. It may be until the end of our contract. Our contract expires in April.”

Harwood and Wheeler debuted in AEW in 2020 after opting to let their WWE contracts expire. Do you think the two will re-sign with AEW or end up back in WWE? Let us know in the comments!
