Horror parody of the Grinch debuts in December

The merry nature of winter holidays means audiences get quite the contrast when a horror movie takes place during those festivities, although the upcoming movie The average from XYZ Films seems to delve even further into that juxtaposition, as it is inspired by Dr. seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Despite the story not directly checking the name, the title comes from the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, which became popular in the 1966 animation special. To make the experience even more special, the film is made available free of charge on December 15.

Per press release, “In the bold new parody, The average (David Howard Thornton) is a furry green-skinned grunt in a Santa suit who lives on a mountain high above the town of Newville and despises the holidays. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin), whose parents were massacred by The Mean One twenty Christmases earlier, returns to town to seek closure… but is about to discover that this devil with a heart that two sizes too small is still quite eager to cut the roast beast.”

“In The averageDavid Howard Thornton — currently in 800+ cinemas as terrier 2‘s Art the Clown — cements its presence in horror history with this new iconic slasher villain. Holiday lovers who think they know The average stands for a very big surprise.

XYZ Films’ Manager of Acquisitions and Development Alex Williams shared in a statement: “As a passionate fan of seasonal horror (and the Terrier franchise), The average is exactly the kind of movie that lands on my personal “nice list.” This movie is a stunningly wonderful time with a brutally subversive turn from David Howard Thornton — and XYZ Films is so proud to bring this soon-to-be iconic Christmas slash to the public this holiday season.”

The average will be available on December 15th.
