GunGrave GORE director confirms game will act as franchise sequel

Gungrave will be bringing back his anime universe later this month, and with Trigun back next year via the new anime series, TRigun Stampede, General Manager Kay Kim took the opportunity to answer our questions about bringing back Yasuhiro Nightow’s gun-slinging franchise. The series first appeared as a video game on the Playstation 2 in 2002 and got its own anime adaptation a year later, with Studio Madhouse animators bringing this revenge story to the small screen. Received twenty-six episodes, the new one Gungrave GORE game will expand on the story of the universe.

To begin our interview, we took the opportunity to ask Kim if this new entry would be a continuation of the story we first saw in the early 2000s or if this would be a reboot:

“First came the original game and then the anime was produced due to the popularity of the game. The core storyline and character background have remained the same as before, but there are some minor changes from the original game. GORE is a continuation of the storyline from the franchise set in the same universe.”

Kim then took the opportunity to explain the different approach they take to developing GORE compared to the original game that first came out in 2002:

“It’s more accurate to see it because we inherited the benefits of the previous title, then added some features that today’s gamers would expect from a current action game. Since Gungrave GORE was developed within the full scope of the franchise, it’s safe to say there will be a lot for the original fans to appreciate while it’s still fresh for newcomers.

While this new game may take us back to the anime universe first created by Yasuhiro Nightow, unfortunately don’t expect a resurgence in the same vein as Trigun, with Vash the Stampede returning to the small screen next year. since the game director has not “thought through the next steps”:

“We haven’t thought about the next steps in the future of the series until now. What we think about most is getting the gamers’ approval as a game. We just want users to have fun with our game and look forward to seeing what they find of the return of Grave.”

Gungrave GORE will be released on November 22, 2022 and will be available on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC.
