Google Maps adds support for finding fast electric vehicle chargers

Thanks to a handy feature in Google Maps, finding a charger for a quick EV refueling just got easier

At this early stage of EV adoption in Australia, drivers still face the challenge of finding not just a public charger, but finding that To the right public charger for your car.

An update to the Google Maps app – available for both Apple and Android operating systems – has made this a bit easier, allowing you to filter by charger and plug type to narrow your search.

Locate in the Google Maps app on your phone “ev charging stations” and you will be presented with a series of filters, including FAST CHARGING, which identifies DC chargers of 50kW and faster, and SELECT PLUGS, to select chargers that match your car.

Features also work on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, translating filters selected on your phone into search results provided in-car.

For example, if you configure for a CCS DC (Type 2 combo) and select fast chargers, your results will only show potential targets that support this type of charging.

You can quickly clear the filters on your phone to see the full list of charging options as well.

This feature is now available in the Google Maps mobile app but not on the Google Maps website via your internet browser.
