Now a year into the latter Ghost Rider series, Benjamin Percy and Cory Smith liven up their bikes for the long haul. In a new long-running interview on the Miracle website, the creators behind the hit series teased what readers can expect about the title in the coming months. Namely, those who keep up with the comic will see the return of an iconic antagonist from the Spirit of Vengeance.
“Everything in it Ghost Rider is always Mephisto, Mephisto, Mephisto. Readers are paralyzed by it. I had the same feeling about Sabretooth in Wolverine: he is the big bad guy and creators are always rushing the clash between the two. So in that title, we completely took Sabretooth off the table by throwing him into the pit of Krakoa,” Percy told the House of Ideas. fighting it out, it would be particularly meaningful. What have I done in the meantime? Built up other bad guys who aren’t in the spotlight as often, like Omega Red and Mikhail Rasputin.”
He added: “We’re doing something similar in Ghost Rider. Sure, Johnny will end up fighting Mephisto, but let’s try some other nasty stuff! When I read Brisson’s run, I had a feeling that Blackheart would of course have been very covetous of Johnny’s time as the king of hell, so he would strive to take Blaze off his throne and put him in the dungeon, so to speak. to throw. Where is Ghost Rider on his way to his final story?”
Exactly when Mephisto will return remains to be seen, although Johnny Blaze will already have his hands full with the return of a classic Ghost Rider character next month.
“We’re rebuilding the mythology little by little,” Percy added. “If you’ve looked at the requests, you already know that Danny Ketch races towards Johnny Blaze in the side mirror. There’s a lot of chaos waiting at the next exit.’
Ghost Rider #11 is scheduled for release on February 8.
