Elvis star Austin Butler breaks silence over Lisa Marie Presley’s death

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Lisa Marie Presley, who passed away earlier this month from apparent cardiac arrest. The musician, only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, had just returned to the limelight because of the movie Elvis. The Baz Luhrmann-led biopic details some key moments in her father’s life, and Presley had appeared at the Golden Globes just days before her death to cheer on the film’s star, Austin Butler. During the day an appearance The Tonight Show starring Jimmy FallonButler spoke of his personal connection to Presley and called her passing “devastating.”

“I first met Lisa when we showed the movie at Graceland,” Butler revealed. “I’ve never had an experience where I met someone and felt an instant deep relationship with them. She’s also, she’s a person who had nothing to prove and didn’t open up to everyone and she just opened up to me. We came so close so quickly, so it’s just devastating.”

Born February 1, 1968, Presley was the sole heir to her father’s estate, inheriting it in 1993 on her 25th birthday. In addition to prolific charitable and humanitarian work, Presley still owns her father’s iconic Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. She has also released three music albums over the years, the most recent of which is from 2012 Storm and grace.

“I wouldn’t say I talk to him…I just remember everything,” Presley said of her father in a 2018 appearance on the British talk show Lorraine. “I can get all the memories I have and things like that out of the files. And ask for help once in a while. That was the case with this record. I just felt like a hand came to me, it felt like a little bit.”

Presley has been married four times, including to musician Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage. She has three children including Max Mad: Fury Road and Daisy Jones and the Six actress Riley Keough.
