Dragon Quest game stops

Square Enix has announced that it is shutting down Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai: The Bonds of a Hero in the next months. While the team will release “multiple updates” ahead of time, the game will no longer be playable as of April 26 at 8PM PT. Immediately effective, Square Enix has discontinued the sale of red gems, item packs, and the game’s Gold Pass. The automatic renewal of the Gold Pass will also end on January 29. In the meantime, some auto-renewals may slip through the cracks, so Square Enix advises players to manually cancel their subscriptions to avoid problems.

“Since the game first launched on 9/27/2021, our goal has always been to provide our players with the most satisfying and diverse experience. After discussions about the challenges and practicalities of delivering the same standard in the future , however, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue the service,” Square Enix’s announcement reads. “We would like to sincerely thank all our players for their comments and support so far.”

Players can still use collected red gems until the end of the game’s service. In the coming weeks, players can still look forward to the “final chapters of both Dragon Tracks and the Bonding Journey, a treasure hunt featuring previously exclusive and season-exclusive gear, and much more.” Hopefully this softens the blow a bit, and Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai: The Bonds of a Hero will be able to go out on a high note.

While today’s announcement is sure to disappoint players, it’s a sad reality for many games like this! In fact, Square Enix similarly discontinued service for this month Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. While Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai: The Bonds of a Hero will follow soon, fans of both franchises should still have plenty to look forward to in the future. Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are Square Enix’s flagship franchises, and fans never have to wait long for a new series or spin-off.
